Duties of the Best man

Host a bachelor party for the groom( talk to the groom-to-be about the types of activities that he is interested in, and determine what type of bachelor party he would prefer).

Attend fittings for tuxedos or suits at the scheduled time.

Attend any pre-wedding meetings for the wedding attendants.

Provide the groom with moral support, and ease his pre-wedding jitters and make sure he gets to the ceremony on time.

Hold the wedding rings, and the marriage license, for safe keeping.

Hold the payment for the ceremony officiator, as well as payments for anyone else at the end of the ceremony.

Stand in the receiving line (sometimes the best man and groomsmen are excused from participating in the receiving line).

It is customary for the best man to make a toast at the reception and /or make a speech.

At the appropriate time, he will announce any of the individuals who will be proposing a toast or making a speech.

Hold on to the payments for the vendors who will be providing services at the reception.

Help the Bride and Groom make their getaway at the end of the reception.

Ensure that a car will be waiting for them, or drive them.

You may be asked to run the occasional errand, The couple will let you know if they are in need of any favors from you.

The best man is responsible for his own attire (tuxedo or suit) etc.
